"Welcome to the Sitagu Cakkhudana Hospital, Hsipaw"

Patients with various eye diseases/disorders can seek evaluations and treatments from March 28, 2013 to March 30, 2013.

The Sitagu Cakkhu Dana Hospital will provide free assessment and medical or surgical treatments if necessary from March 28, 2013 to March 30, 2013 at Mahamyatmuni Pagoda premises at Hsipaw, Northern Shan state. It is indeed very proud to announce our free 23rd treatment program.

One of our volunteer staff members is screening vision on a patient.

A staff member is preparing to check a patient on visual fields.

Ophthalmologist is interviewing the patient to obtain details of the patient medical history and examining patients to determine if surgical intervention is needed.

Screening tests for diabetes, HIV, Hepatitis B and C are also employed as a part of preoperative procedures. Hypertension is also screened in patients with eye diseases during that time.

Sterilization of medical devices and supplies including scrubs is the standard procedure of the program.

Patient pupils are being dilated with appropriate eye drops prior to operative procedures performed by ophthalmologists. They wear medical gowns in preparation for surgery.

Medical staffs are in full action while operating using complete sterilized techniques.

Patients are resting during post-operative period with family members.

Post-operative day 1: Next day, patients are waiting to be seen for re-evaluation by ophthalmologists.  Medical professions including ophthalmologists/optometrists and nursing staff selflessly provide their time and expertise at the Sitagu Cakkhudana Hospital.

Volunteer members are sweeping the premises, cleaning both inside and outside the facility, and collecting garbage prior to anticipate opening date.

Some donates money to cover the expenses of the operation to regain vision.

Although the operation is designed for 3 days (Mar. 28-30, 2013), we need to prepare to get ready at least one week prior to arrival of patients. Aftermath, we still have to make sure that patients are safe to be discharged home before leaving the Hospital. Post-operative follow-ups are required for some patients. Then we called for a meeting to arrange for next program in about 3 months. To complete one particular program, it usually takes 4-6 weeks.
Since the program started in Mar. 22, 2008, a total of 11,250 patients had been evaluated and 2,245 patients had been surgically operated by ophthalmologists. The 22nd program was last held on Dec. 24, 2012. Every year, patients are welcome to be evaluated and treated surgically if needed in March, June, September and December.
The 23rd program is about to be held on Mar. 28, 2013 (Fifth Anniversary). We would like to invite your kindness and generosity in any aspects including time, labor, medical expertise, and monetary.
Sitagu Hsipaw….
